By the end of this, you will have a phone number customers can call, and your agent will answer it. This one is all inside Olanna. There is no other website to visit, no account to make, and nothing to copy down. Here is the whole job:
  1. Pick a phone number.
  2. Wait for it to switch on.
  3. Call it.
Set aside 5 to 10 minutes.
Voice is in beta. It is newer than the other channels, so some things may be missing or rough. Support can tell you what works in your area if you are not sure.

Before you start

You do not need anything from anywhere else. The one exception is if you want to keep the business number you already have, rather than take a new one. Moving a number means proving it is yours, so have a recent phone bill or your account details from your current provider to hand.

Part 1: Start the setup

1

Open Channels

In Olanna, choose Channels in the left menu.
2

Choose Connect on the Voice row

It is marked BETA.
The Channels page with the Voice row and its Connect button

Voice sits with the other channels, marked BETA.

This does not open a form asking for codes or keys, the way the other channels do. It opens a short walkthrough for choosing your number.

Part 2: Choose your number

You get two options. Get a new number. Pick one from a list. You can usually narrow the list down by area code, so you can get a number local to where your customers are. Keep the number you already have. Bring in a number you use today. You will be asked for details from your current provider so they can check the number is really yours.

A new number, or the one you already use.

1

Pick the option that suits you

A new number is quicker. Keeping your own means customers do not have to learn a new one.
2

Follow the steps on screen

A new number is a couple of clicks. Keeping your own number means typing in your current account details.
3

Choose Confirm

That finishes the walkthrough.

Part 3: Wait for it to switch on

Back on the Channels page, the Voice row now says Connecting in amber. A new number is usually ready in a few minutes. Keeping your own number takes longer, anywhere from minutes to a few working days. That part is up to your old provider, not Olanna. There is nothing for you to do while you wait. Check back later. When the row turns green and says Connected, it is ready.

Amber while it is being set up, green when it is ready.

Part 4: Test it

Once the row says Connected, call the number from any phone. Your agent should pick up and start talking.

Part 5: Managing your number later

Voice has no Disconnect button, unlike the other channels. Turning it off would mean giving up a real phone number, not just clearing out some saved details. That is too easy to do by accident.
1

Open the Voice row menu

It says Manage numbers rather than Disconnect.
2

Go to Phone Numbers

That takes you to Settings › Phone Numbers. From there you can see every number your business has, add another, or give one up.

Questions

It depends on where you are and what kind of number it is. Your billing page has the current rates, and support can tell you if you would rather ask.
Yes. Add and manage them under Settings, then Phone Numbers.
Your agent only answers calls made after the row says Connected. Anything before that is not picked up afterwards.
These are two separate connections with different requirements. Check with support before trying to use one number for both.

Troubleshooting

New numbers are usually quick. A number you are bringing in can take days, depending on your old provider. If it has been longer than that, look at Settings, then Phone Numbers, for a status message, or contact support with your request details.
While Voice is in beta it is not available on every plan or in every country. Contact support to check your account.
This nearly always means the details you gave did not match your provider’s records exactly. Check the account number, the name and the address against your latest phone bill, then try again.
Contact support with your business name. If you are moving a number, tell us which number it is.
